Children of the Sea

I have a fascination for the oceans and their occupants.

Some of the fondest memories of my youth were the summer vacations in Brittany with my grandmother, where I would spend hours walking the beach and climbing the rocks at low tide in search of marine life. For me, this was the discovery of new life forms that, to this day, still fascinates me. The beach, the sea, the crashing waves! A little fish trapped in a tide pool waiting for the high sea to return, a little crab finding shelter under a rock, and so many other wonders.

I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoy creating them. However, I must confess I do so with a bittersweet melancholy of far-gone youth and happy times.

Thank you for visiting  .

Just a little Philosophy!

The ever so selfish human race...! Many things have been written about the oceans, especially the aspects that are relevant to us. In 1937, Rachel Carson wrote a long article in the Atlantic JournalThis excerpt summarizes the importance of our stewardship and the responsibility bestowed upon us.

“Who has known the ocean? Neither you nor I, with our earth-bound senses, see the foam and surge of the tide that beats over the crab hiding under the seaweed of his tide pool home; or the lilt of the long, slow swells of mid-ocean, where shoals of wandering fish prey and are preyed upon, and the dolphin breaks the waves to breathe the upper atmosphere. (…) To sense this world of waters known to the creatures of the sea, we must shed our human perceptions of length, breadth, time, and place and enter vicariously into a universe of all-pervading water. For the sea’s children, nothing is so crucial as the fluidity of their world. “
